Thohoyandou girl (15) found with two unlicensed guns arrested

Preliminary investigations indicate the firearms belong to the girl's boyfriend who was arrested earlier this month on various charges including attempted murder and house robbery.

LIMPOPO – A 15-year-old girl is expected to appear before the Children’s Court at the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court soon on possession of unlicensed firearms charges.

The teenager was arrested on Monday after police received a tip off at the Thohoyandou Police station about a girl in possession of firearms.

The girl was located and approached by police.

“The suspect was searched and police found two unlicensed firearms in her possession. She was asked about their origin but failed to provide a satisfactory response and was arrested on the spot,” police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the firearms belonged to the boyfriend of the suspect who was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm, attempted murder and house robbery that were committed earlier this month in the Thohoyandou policing area.

“Police investigations continue,” he said.
