POLOKWANE – “I want to heal people’s hearts with my art and sell my art worldwide,” – portrait artist Mack Mamaregana.

The 26-year-old Mangkweng-born portrait artist, who’s studying B.Ed at the University of Limpopo, started drawing from the age of 14 and was taught by his mentor Watts Mogale how to master a portrait in pencil (black and white) and in colour.

“I do close-up portraits and full body sketches with fabriano board sheets and canvass for paintings. My favourite celebrity portrait was that of King Monada as I’m inspired by his hardworking spirit and his belief in his talent, which I would like to emulate. And he is from this province too,” Mamaregana said.

He told BONUS that he fell in love with Mogale’s artwork and from there knew that this is what he would love to do in his spare time as a student.

“Portraits have been used to show power, importance, virtue, beauty, wealth, taste and learning. I want my clients to commemorate and celebrate and I want to show them who they were and are now through portraits. But most importantly, I want to create beautiful memories.”
