Mediclinic Limpopo mourns head of security Rassie Erasmus

Rassie Erasmus was described as the go-to person for any crisis, was always calm, resourceful and dependable.

POLOKWANE – Rassie Erasmus, the head of security at Mediclinic Limpopo since 2019, was a people’s person, and a hardworking man who loved spending most of his time with his family in the garden.

Erasmus was a proud father and always protected his two daughters, Christelle Combrink and Christa Schoeman.

“He always used to say, ‘I’m just a phone call away’, and treasured every moment he spent with us. He stood his ground for what he believed in and could be a stubborn man when it came to his own feelings,” Combrink said.

Erasmus was one of six children with two brothers and three sisters.

“He used to tell us how busy he was as a young boy, always ready to attempt new stunts with his siblings. He played rugby, participated in kickboxing and learned to play the drums at the age of three. He was well-known for his good looks.”

According to his daughters, Erasmus loved camping and the outdoors and enjoyed a good braai every weekend.

“He always referred to himself as Patrick Swayze, because he could dance like a dream and taught us to dance from a young age. This was his one quality I will treasure most,” Combrink said.

Financial admin manager and security at Mediclinic Limpopo, Nicolette Venter told Polokwane Observer that she had known and worked with Erasmus for little over a year.

“My impression of Rassie was that he was the go-to person for any crisis, always calm, always resourceful, always dependable. He led his staff in such a way that he exemplified leadership. He gave energy, commitment and inspiration to his staff and to others with whom he worked,” Venter said.

She added that it is a difficult time for everyone that was close to Erasmus. “We say goodbye to not just a co-worker, but a friend too. Rassie left behind a legacy and a lasting impression on all of us who knew and worked with him.”

Rassie is survived by his two daughters, four grandchildren and five siblings.

His funeral service was held on August 21.
