Boy (13) dies after taxi and bus collide in Polokwane

Two children had to be extracted from the taxi by the fire department and were treated with advanced life support interventions before being transported to hospital.

POLOKWANE – The cause of the collision between a bus and a taxi on the corner of Van Boeschoten and Plein Street in Polokwane on Thursday afternoon is to be investigated following the death of a 13-year-old boy.

ER24 reports that the boy died while 14 others, including 13 children and the driver of the taxi, were injured during the collision.

“ER24 paramedics were on the scene at 14:14 along with GPG, the fire and traffic departments, the police and other private emergency services,” their statement reads.

Two children who were critically injured, a 13-year-old and nine-year-old boy were extracted from the vehicle by the fire department and treated with advanced life support interventions before being transported to hospital along with four other critically injured patients.

According to the report four other children were seriously injured and two moderately injured while three children suffered minor injuries.

The 36-year-old driver was one of the moderately injured patients.

“The 13-year-old boy unfortunately died from his injuries at one of the hospitals. The five minor to moderately injured were also treated and transported to hospitals in the area,” the statement reads.
