Mahwelereng teen nabbed with packets of dagga-nyaope mix

The 17-year-old boy was in possession of cross-dagga, rock and cash amounting to R3 450.

LIMPOPO – A 17-year-old boy appeared before the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court today (August 14) on charges of unlawful possession and dealing in illicit drugs following his arrest on Saturday (August 12).

The boy was arrested by the Limpopo Highway Patrol Unit in Mahwelereng Zone 1 outside Mokopane.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the team were conducting routine crime prevention operational duties when they spotted the suspect.

The boy was in possession of 60 packets of cross-dagga which is a mixture of nyaope and dagga, worth R1 650, 12 pieces of rock valued at R2 200 as well as cash to the amount of R3 450.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the arrest and further praised the team for removing the drugs from the community.

“These drugs are destroying the future of the people, especially the youth. We will continue to uproot them with the help of the public,” she said.
