Drop-in centre in Boyne asks for building material donations

The Tshiamo DIC Isibindi Drop-In Centre assists children from less fortunate families and orphans in order for them to feel loved and be well taken care of.

POLOKWANE – With the aim of taking over 150 children off the street and offering them a safe space, the Tshiamo DIC Isibindi Drop-In Centre in Boyne is pleading the public to assist with building material to rebuild their centre following eviction.

Since its inception in 2008, the centre has operated without any failure, however, their biggest challenge is that they don’t have a proper premises to provide services to the community.

Caretakers at the centre assist children with their homework.

Those services include helping children with homework, providing food through their soup kitchen, school holiday and tutoring programmes and assistance with school material.

The centre also has a child and youth care worker who assists with psychological matters. “It is best to allow a professional to handle all the matters that the kids go through,” said project manager Rebecca Makhubela.

Makhubela added that they help children from less fortunate families and orphans so that they can feel loved and be well taken care of.

“We help the children in the community to ensure that they grow up to be better leaders and to change their mindset,” she added.

She also explained that it is difficult for the team to currently house the children at the premises they currently have due to the cold winter season.

“It is a challenge to accommodate all the children and it is heartbreaking to see that we can’t help them when we need to.”

Those who wish to donate can contact Makhubela on 076 588 3722.
