Family mourns death of Baby Ado

Baby Ado died in the Seshego Hospital last week after enduring illness for months after she was abandoned in the cold last year.

POLOKWANE – The woman who fostered the baby who was found abandoned in one of the restrooms of a taxi rank in Polokwane’s central business district last year, was left inconsolable following the toddler’s death last week.

She died in the Seshego Hospital last Monday night.

Mabotse Mothiba said Baby Ado was estimated to have been around two or three months old when she was found in 2022.

Having been an abandoned baby herself, Mothiba had told Polokwane Observer that the family did not hesitate to provide a warm shelter to the infant after she was found without a note from the mother, a nappy or even a blanket.

She advised women to seek help from the right people and institutions if they feel overwhelmed by motherhood, instead of resorting to extreme measures.

“Problems and challenges are part of life. Do not let your emotions destroy your life. Let us not judge, but give support where necessary. If you cannot afford a child, use contraceptives and plan for the future. Young girls, let us not entrap married men with pregnancies, it is not worth it. Life is unpredictable,” she said.

She struggled to hold back her tears last Tuesday, reflecting on her time with Baby Ado.

Instead, her friend Vincent Kunutu said the family is devastated, but remains strong. “They raised a beautiful baby, but God had other plans. May her soul rest in peace,” he said.

Funeral and memorial services arrangements will be announced at a later stage.
