Well-known Vhembe businessman laid to rest

Speakers at well-known businessman Amos Mukwevho's funeral all described him as a pioneer, a born leader and a man of vision.

LIMPOPO- Community members around Vhembe paid their last respects to well-known businessman, sheriff and community leader Amos Mukwevho (70), who was laid to rest at the Khomele cemetery on Sunday.

He passed away in the Baragwanath Hospital on July 18 following a long illness.

The news of his death sent shock waves through the community he had served throughout his life. Mourners from across the country attended the funeral and many attended the graveyard ceremony too. All speakers described Mukwevho as a pioneer, a born leader and a man of vision.

Nomsa Mukwevho, his daughter, said the family had indeed suffered a great loss with the death of their father.

“It is painful to lose such an intelligent father, but we thank God because He does everything for a reason.” She thanked the community for their support.

A friend of the deceased, Jonathan Ratshibvumo said Mukwevho was a “soldier” for the bigger part of his adult life.

“He was one of those men who fought for development in the prime of his life and excelled at everything he did. He will be remembered for his dedication and commitment to his vision and tenacity as a businessman.”

“Mukwevho pursued the struggle to open the doors of learning to the youth of our country. The nation is in deep mourning as we have lost one of the giants of the struggle who still had a lot to offer for the development of the community,” said Ratshibvumo.

He said although family and friends accepted what had happened, Mukwevho’s death had robbed the community of an energetic leader who was full of zeal and courage.”
