Trio of Limpopo Highway Patrol Unit officers nabbed for corruption

The officers are said to have seized eight bags of dagga meant for research purposes at the University of Limpopo which was never booked.

POLOKWANE – Three officers attached to the Limpopo Highway Patrol Unit will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today on charges of corruption, assault and theft.

The trio, aged between 29 and 39-years-old, were arrested in Polokwane on Monday by the Anti-Corruption Unit following an investigation into corrupt activity.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspects raided a dagga plantation at a plot in Dalmada on July 16 where they seized eight bags of dagga meant for research purposes at the University of Limpopo.

“The dagga, worth R300 000 was never booked at the exhibit store for investigation purposes and the said plants were never returned to the plantation as promised,” his statement read.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the arrest and said it is an indication that no one is above the law.

“We are prepared to uproot corruption even within our own ranks,” she said.
