SAPS finance clerk sentenced for theft

The ruling stems from an incident dating back to a one-month period in 2014, during which R3 000 was stolen from a safe.

POLOKWANE- A 37-year-old former SAPS finance administration clerk was sentenced to 12 months suspended for five years, after stealing R3 000 at the Seshego Police Station in 2014.

Nerissa Mokgadi was sentenced in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on July 20.

She was arrested after a case of theft was opened by her employer and the case was later transferred to the Polokwane division of the Hawks Serious Corruption Unit.

Provincial Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said Mogadi was employed at the station between January 17, 2014 and February 12 that same year, and was solely responsible for the safekeeping of state money.

After a thorough investigation, it came to light that the accused was responsible for the stolen money as she was the only person in possession of the keys to the safe, a statement reads.

Mokgadi appeared in court the first time in 2015, and released on bail.
