Safety at PEMPS is Officer Frank’s number one priority

Frank Monyama has been a security officer at PEMPS for 16 years and says his primary responsibility is to ensure that the property of the school, learners and teachers remains safe.

POLOKWANE – Frank Monyama, the security officer at Pietersburg English Medium Primary School (PEMPS) says nothing gives him more joy that seeing learners enjoying teaching and being in a protected environment.

Monyama joined the school in 2007 and says under his helm there have never been any major accident at the school.

“PEMPS is one of the top schools in the city and it is my duty to ensure that learners and teachers are safe at all times. One of my primary responsibilities is to ensure that the property of the school, and learners and teachers remains safe. We have no intruders on sports days or any other events, and I ensure that parents feel safe too when they collect their children at the school.”

Oftentimes he always assists with some paperwork, he says.

“I help parents with application forms, and the whole submission process. I look after their children after school when they are still at work. There are parents that knock off late and they don’t have anyone to fetch their children on their behalf. I make sure that when they come to collect them they find them safe and sound at their collection points.”

He urged citizens to respect security officers who man corporate offices, private companies, government offices and other types of institutions.

“Many people look down on security officers. But we know almost everything about our workplaces and sometimes reserve the right of admission, which people sometimes forget. All we need is for everyone to treat us with respect and we will give them the same energy.”
