Golfing community remembers Ray Earle

Ray Earle (79), affectionately known as 'Uncle', was described as a man with a big heart who radiated kindness and compassion to all who knew him.

POLOKWANE – Well-known golf coach and player, Ray Earle (79) passed away earlier this week after a heart attack. Earle was a part of the establishment at the Polokwane Golf Club and will be sorely missed by all.

One of Earle’s many friends, Safraaz Suliman paid tribute to this golfing legend and offered his condolences to Earle’s family.

“Ray Earle, also known affectionately as ‘Uncle’, was a remarkable coach and player who had a great impact on my journey in golf together with my father. His disciplined approach and unwavering passion for the game truly set him apart,” Suliman said.

Well-known golfing coach and player, Ray Earle passed away earlier this week.

According to Suliman, Earle played a pivotal role in preparing him to represent the prestigious Limpopo team, memories which he will always cherish.

“His expertise and mentorship were instrumental in my growth and development as a golfer, instilling in me the values of perseverance, focus and sportsmanship,” Suliman added.

“Beyond the golf course, Uncle was a man with a big heart, radiating kindness and compassion to all who knew him. Our travels together throughout the country were not just about golf; they were filled with laughter, camaraderie and unforgettable memories. He always prioritised our best interests, guiding us with his wisdom and ensuring we reached our full potential. Uncle’s passing leaves an immense void in our hearts. His legacy as a legendary golfing coach, player and remarkable individual will be eternally remembered. To his beloved family, we extend our deepest condolences during this difficult time. May the Almighty grant you strength and solace, knowing that Uncle’s impact lives on through the countless lives he has touched. Rest in peace, dear Ray “Uncle” Earle. Your passion, dedication, and love for the game will forever inspire us all,” Suliman concluded.

The Limpopo Golf Union also posted a tribute on social media: “Uncle, we salute you. You were a golfing legend and you will always be in our memories. Thank you for all your years of inputs, effort and wisdom. You had an incredible impact on golf in Limpopo. It is with great sadness that we say farewell.”

His daughter Desi, who is also a major role player at the Polokwane Golf Club, said that he will be missed by all. “He gave his all for his family and the boys,” she said.

Earle is also survived by his other daughter, Audrey and grandchildren.

A service to celebrate his life will take place in the club house of Fairview Hotel outside Tzaneen on Saturday at 11:00.
