Three month wait for murdered Limpopo woman’s DNA results

Susan Mainganya Mufamadi's body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition after she went missing on April 6.

LIMPOPO – The Mufamadi family of Madodonga village in the Kutama area, was relieved after DNA tests finally confirmed that the decomposed body found in a mealie field in Tshiozwi on April 11 was that of 26-year-old Susan Mainganya Mufamadi.

Susan went missing on April 6 after visiting someone in the same village.

A few days later her father, Joseph Mufamadi, received a call from the police to possibly identify his daughter, after they found a body in the field. Because of the advanced stage of decomposition, however, this proved difficult and DNA tests were ordered.

On 26 June the family was informed that the body was indeed that of their daughter.

Mufamadi said her death had left them with a huge void in the family and is something they struggle with every day.

“Life has been difficult, but since we have received the DNA results now we can make peace and give her a proper burial.”

In another case, the body of 15-year-old Lungisani Phosa, a Gr 10 learner at Maneledzi High School, was also found in a field in the area on January 23 this year.

No one has been arrested for either of these cases.

Vhamusanda Vho-Ntanganedzeni Kutama said the community shared the families’ pain and hoped that God would help them remain strong in this difficult time.

He urged villagers to come forward with any information that could bring the perpetrators to book.

“We are doing all we can to make people aware of the crimes that are happening in our midst, but we seem to be fighting a losing battle because people prefer to keep quiet,” he said.

Susan Mufamadi was buried at Madodonga on Saturday.
