LIMPOPO – A 42-year-old man has handed himself over at the Kwa Mhlanga Police Station in Mpumalanga for his alleged involvement in the murder of his wife a week ago.
The man was arrested after days on the run and being sought by police.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the victim’s body was discovered by the community in Moteti Extension Slovo, Dennilton on July 3 and that the suspect was the last person to be seen with the victim. They had been seen at a local tavern before leaving.
“It appears that while walking home, the duo had a heated argument and fought resulting in the suspect fleeing the scene and the victim left in a pool of blood. The suspect immediately went into hiding in Kwa Mhlanga,” his statement read.
The police and emergency services were called to the scene and the woman was declared dead on arrival.
“A case of murder was opened and a search operation for the suspect was launched. The motive for the killing is still unknown and investigations continue,” Ledwaba said.
He added that the suspect will appear before the Dennilton Magistrate’s Court soon on charge of murder.
The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the murder and noted an increase in Gender Based Violence incidents in the province.
