Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says they responded to a complaint on Monday morning from the Breda village community in Gilead outside Mokopane about a domestic violence case in which a man had hacked his mother with an axe and went after his sister and nephew.

“The three victims were certified dead by the paramedics upon arrival and the suspect was arrested shortly after near his home,” his statement read.

Ledwaba said three cases of murder have been opened against the suspect and that the motive for the incident is unknown.

“The deceased were identified as Johanna Seanego (Mother; 59), Matome Seanego (Sister; 19) and Tebogo Mashilo Seanego (Nephew; 10)

“We are extremely appalled by the incident and the atrocious manner in which the victims were killed. We commend the police for arresting the suspect who must face the consequences of his alleged horrendous actions,” Hadebe said.

The suspect will appear before the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (July 12).
