Top Limpopo cops accused of fixing interview scoresheets

The trio are said to have changed scoresheets to favour their preferred candidates so the ones with higher scores could not be recommended for advertised posts within the SAPS.

POLOKWANE – Two senior retired Limpopo police officials and one still in the service, have been accused of tampering with recommendation score-sheets in the appointment of a station and a cluster commander in 2016.

In a statement, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) says the three were part of a selection panel responsible for the interview and recommendation of candidates for the advertised posts for the Polokwane station commander and the Modimolle cluster commander.

They are said to have changed the scoresheets to favour their preferred candidates so the ones with higher scores could not be recommended for the job.

The three generals appeared in the Tshwane Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday and the matter was postponed to August 3, according to spokesperson, Robbie Raburabu.

Contacted for comment, the 58-year-old Christina Morakaladi, who still employed by the service, referred the query to Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba, who referred it to the national office.

National police spokesperson, Brig Athlenda Mathe says they have “noted the investigation and subsequent court proceedings and that the matter is receiving attention”.

The two other accused, former Limpopo police commissioner Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba and Maj Gen Nyikeni Baloyi are both retired.

The whistleblower in the case, a candidate who was ultimately not appointed, took the matter to the Labour Court where it was found in his favour. He declined the opportunity to comment, saying it might interfere with the merits of the case.
