POLOKWANE – A strong cold front is expected to bring a significant drop in temperature to the city from Monday.
The South African Weather Service says a cold front, currently situated to the south-west of South Africa is expected to make landfall in the Western Cape on Friday evening and will effect the eastern half of the country from Saturday onward.

“A significant drop in temperature is expected over the extreme western parts of the country on Friday, spreading eastwards on Saturday. These cold to very cold temperatures will reach the eastern parts of the country by Sunday,” a press release read.
According to ‘The Weather Girls’, a TikTok account run by meteorologists Annette Botha and Michelle Cordier for Vox Weather, the cold front will bring with it an “extremely cold blast of sub-polar air” that will invade the country from Saturday.
“We are expecting a steep drop in temperature,” the account states.

What does this mean for Polokwane?
Brace yourself as maximum temperatures will reach a mere high of 11ºC on Monday with temperatures remaining in the low to mid teens for the rest of next week as the cold blast leaves the country.
Along with the low maximum temperature, rain is also forecast on Monday with an 88% chance of showers and around 4.3mm expected.
The rest of next week will see midday temperatures between 14ºC and 19ºC with minimum temperatures only ranging between 2ºC and 4ºC.
Partly cloudy to sunny conditions will persist from Tuesday onward.
The SAWS said it will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates where needed.
