Limpopo tavern owner killed and five others injured in pub shooting

The deceased was identified as the 41-year-old Tshimangadzo Andries Makuya, also known as Dollar and the motive for the incident is unknown.

LIMPOPO – A business owner in Louis Trichardt was killed and five persons wounded when a random shooting occurred at a pub on Saturday at around midnight.

The deceased was identified as the 41-year-old Tshimangadzo Andries Makuya, also known as Dollar. Preliminary investigations indicate that two unknown armed men entered the premises and randomly opened fire on patrons.

During the ordeal, five people sustained gunshot injuries, while Makuya suffered several shots in the upper body. It is believed that the suspects fled the crime scene in a white VW Polo and silver-grey Mercedes-Benz with unknown registration numbers.

The motive for the incident is unknown, and the police have opened a case of murder and attempted murder. Provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe has ordered a manhunt for the suspects.

This is the second tavern shooting incident in as many months.

Last month, six people were shot at at Muchipisi, Malamulele resulting in the death of two patrons.

According to the police, those responsible are a gang of gunmen who travel in two separate vehicles. In this incident, the victims were the pub owner and five patrons.

In both incidents, the wounded patrons were taken to their nearest hospitals for treatment.

Their identities, however, cannot be divulged as they are potential witnesses.

Police are calling on the public to assist with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. Ledwaba says a high-level task team is investigating the matter.
