Limpopo businessman urges high school learners to prioritise education

MN Investment's managing director Mike Nesamari told learners that a disadvantaged background should not keep them from having dreams for the future.

LIMPOPO- The managing director of MN Investment, Mike Nesamari urged Gr 11 and 12 learners at several high schools to prioritise their education and steer away from social ills such as liquor or drug abuse.

Nesamari spoke to learners on June 21, when he visited Tshiozwi, Litshovhu and Maluta high school from Madombidzha, donating stationery and sanitary towels and offering a career guidance day.

The initiative set out to encourage learners and teachers, with Nesamari telling learners that a disadvantaged background should not keep them from having dreams for the future.

“You must read until it hurts, for you to have a bright future. Education is the key to a better life. It happens too often that learners fail because they consider their rights ahead of their responsibilities. This results in business without ethics, science without humanity, politics without principles and education without a heart,” he said.

He said that while some were fortunate to have been born into financially able families, others can work toward good matric results to obtain bursaries.

“Instead of boasting with your parents’ qualifications, you should be boasting your own.” He said the time when learners apply for bursaries was nearing, and that education is a powerful tool in defeating poverty.

Representing learners,Takalani Maboho said learners should not choose careers purely because of peer pressure. “Choosing a career must be an individual’s own decision. Learners must also consider their hobbies and other things when they choose careers. They must remember that choosing a career is a decision they have to live with for the rest of their lives.”
