Man (71) arrested for murder of biological son near Mankweng

Preliminary police investigations indicated that the victim was shot by his biological father who later locked himself inside the house.

POLOKWANE- A 71-year-old man will appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder following the fatal shooting on his 26-year-old son on Saturday (June 24).

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said police received a complaint about a shooting in Malesela, Mentz village outside Mankweng and found the victim in a pool of blood on arrival.

Emergency services were summoned to the scene and declared the victim dead on arrival.

“Police established that the victim was shot with a firearm on the upper body and preliminary investigations indicated that the victim was shot by his biological father who later locked himself inside the house,” his statement read.

Police managed to negotiate with the suspect to vacate the house and was arrested once he complied.

“During the arrest, police confiscated a revolver firearm that was used for the commission of the crime with three rounds of live ammunition and two empty cartridges,” Ledwaba said.

He added that the motive of the incident is unknown but will be determined through ongoing police investigations.
