Ha-Lambani bridge to make a difference in local communities

Thulamela Mayor Athingozwidivha Rammbuda urged communities to take full responsibility for protecting the bridge and discouraged them from vandalising it for whatever reason.

LIMPOPO- After a four-year wait, the rural communities of Ha-Lambani who used to cross a wooden makeshift bridge at Tshamulavhu, witnessed the opening of Lambani bridge last Tuesday.

The construction of the bridge started in 2019 with a budget of R17m, but saw delays due to construction errors and a delay in phases.

The bridge was finally presented to residents in an official opening ceremony attended by traditional leaders and community members from Ha-Lambani.

Thulamela Mayor, Athingozwidivha Rammbuda, who cut the ribbon at the ceremony expressed her happiness saying the bridge would provide improved access for the community members and learners, especially during the rain season.

Thulamela Mayor, Athingozwidivha Rammbuda cuts the ribbon to officially open Lambani bridge, assisted by the local traditional leader of Ha-Lambani, Vhamusanda Tshidino Patrick Lambani and some councillors and members of the project steering committee.

“The project saw rural, unemployed people provided with temporary jobs, allowing them to learn new skills relating to bridge construction and gabion-building.”

Rammbuda urged the communities to take full responsibility for protecting the bridge and discouraged them from vandalising the bridge for whatever reason.

The local traditional leader of Ha-Lambani village, Vhamusanda Tshidino Patrick Lambani was over the moon to learn that the long-awaited bridge was finally complete and expressed the hope that it would bring relief for those in the area.
