Advocate encourages other single dads to take pride in raising their kids

Advocate Maphori says single dads ought to be patient, always prioritise their children and and also take care of themselves as they are the only person their kids have.

POLOKWANE – Raising a girl child has never been easy, never mind doing it alone as a single father.

Advocate Maphori, who lost his wife two years ago, does a brilliant job of raising his two beautiful daughters as life gave him no choice but to step up and play both maternal and paternal roles to his children.

Though raising his daughters gives him purpose, it also affects him negatively at times because of monitoring issues. “I feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities of juggling caring for my children, maintaining a job and keeping up with the bills and household chores,” Maphori said.

Maphori finds helping his kids with school work challenging since he sometimes has to do it through WhatsApp and Telegram as he is at work.

He enjoys shopping with his girls and regards those moments as his favourite.

“One thing I can tell other single dads out there is that they ought to be patient and always prioritise their children at all cost. Also take care of yourself because you are the only person they are left with and your kids depend on you,” he added.

He told the Polokwane Observer that he has the strongest relationship with his kids and that he wouldn’t trade them for anything.

“I find joy and pride in playing both mommy and daddy to my daughters and I hope single fathers will take pride in raising their children without being forced to,” he said.
