Chef Isaac believes eating starts with the eyes

Isaac Modiba took it upon himself to gain the necessary experience and knowledge he needed in order to run a successful catering and hospitality business.

POLOKWANE- A junior student chef at the Capricorn TVET College, Isaac Modiba from Ga-Mmambolo just outside of Mankweng, grew up enjoying playing around in the kitchen more than he did playing in the streets.

Modiba’s passion for cooking eventually led him to enrol for a course in hospitality in 2017.

“I was inspired and motivated by local chefs. I loved and enjoyed the way that they played around the kitchen with their plating and food presentations, and I told myself that I also want to learn how to plate food and present it that well, because I believe that eating starts with the eyes,” Modiba said.

The young chef added that he has so much passion for cooking that not even the odd burn or two could keep him out of the kitchen.

“I took it upon myself to gain the necessary experience and knowledge I needed in order to run a successful catering and hospitality business.

“I worked at local hotels and restaurants to harness my skills and knowledge, and this is when I saw myself starting a catering business.”

Modiba is now the proud founder and owner of Isaacs Food and Catering company.

“Establishing clientele is challenging in this industry. As service providers, we need to ensure that we deliver great services so that we can keep clients happy. If we lack in this regard, we may fail to grow as a businesses.”

Modiba is also a community developer at heart who aims to help those in need.

“One day when I was walking in my community, I realised that most people struggle to make ends meet.

“That is when I decided to take some of my profits to buy basic foodstuffs as well as other necessities, and donate these to those in need,” he said.

Modiba teamed up with his college mates, Peter Letsoalo from Ga Mamabolo and Ledile Teffo from Ga Mashashane to register a non-profit organisation, Lenna Ke Motho, which translated to ‘I am also human’.

“This means no matter my background in life, I too deserve to be treated with respect,” he said.

With his organisation, Modiba aims to help the needy as well as motivate and inspire the youth to lend a helping hand where they can.
