Lindy Wilson elected as the provincial leader for the DA in Limpopo

As a former provincial chairperson of the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, she maintains that social impact is at the helm of political development.

POLOKWANE – Ward 20 councillor Lindy Wilson, was recently elected as the new provincial leader for the DA in Limpopo, during last Saturday election held at Bolivia Lodge.

Under her tenure, the party will in time improve bonds with branches, caucuses and municipal councils, she told Polokwane Observer.

“Having worked as community operations manager in Giyani, Phalaborwa and Tzaneen from 2010 for five years, I interacted very closely with these structures and community members. The way in which they perceive the party will directly impact reaction towards it by residents. For our recruitments to be successful, these structures need to be very closely intertwined with the party administrators and management and feel truly positive of its capability as an opposition and party of choice,” she said.

As a former provincial chairperson of the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca), she maintains that social impact is at the helm of political development.

“I will therefore utilise my knowledge and experience in that regard, to question law and policy makers in society, given the rising trajectory of substance abuse among the youth in the country and specifically Polokwane, following a substantial number of arrests of people found in possession of drugs by local police from the recent months.

Wilson served as a member of the social development and health portfolios for six years in the DA.

“During our research, we found that there is almost free movement of drugs more than citizens actually realise. We really cannot move forward into creating political developments if the people we do it for are consumed in substances, and hence I will actively identify ways of pushing policy and decision makers in government to eliminate the scourge,” she added.

Provincial Elective Congress, the following persons also made the list:

Provincial deputy leader – Marie Helm.

Provincial chairperson – Jacques Smalle.

Provincial deputy chairpersons: First deputy chairperson – Androe Botha , second deputy chairperson – Joseph Mariba.

Provincial DA Women’s Network (Dawn) Chairperson – Thelma Marole.
