Mozambican couple arrested for daughter’s (8) murder

The residents of Mogaung village near Nebo requested an ambulance when the girl was found seriously injured after being physically assaulted.

LIMPOPO – A Mozambican couple, aged 31 and 35, will appear in the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Friday (May 26) on a charge of murder and two counts of contravening the Immigration Act 13 of 2002 following their arrest on May 24.

The couple were arrested by the police in Hlogotlou in the Sekhukhune District after the death of their 8-year-old daughter in Mogaung village.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the child resided with her biological father and step-mother in an abusive situation and that the community in the area became aware of the situation.

“On Wednesday (May 24), a resident in the area approached the family following a suspicious incident. It was then established that the victim was seriously injured after being physically assaulted. The community called for an ambulance and the victim was rushed to the nearest hospital but succumbed to her injuries ” his statement read.

Ledwaba said investigations into the matter continue.
