Murdered Limpopo man (115) buried

The late Makukhwe was described as a peace-loving person who was dedicated to his family, work and his community.

LIMPOPO- During the funeral of a 115-year-old man on Saturday, the community raised their concern over crime in their area.

John Makukwe was buried at Madodonga this weekend, after he was apparently murdered at his house on May 13.

His bruised and injured body was discovered by his family members, but they now hope that the cause of death will be determined by a post mortem.

The family’s spokesperson and daughter of the deceased, Dorah Ngwana said the family was still in shock.

“We have no idea as to what could have happened, but as a family we are suspecting foul play as some of his things were taken. We are all saddened by his death. He did not deserve to die like this and we want to see justice done.”

John Makukwe died on May 13.

Vhamusanda Vho-Ntanganedzeni Kutama was concerned about the incident. “Who would kill a fragile, defenceless elderly person,” he asked.

“It is our responsibility as traditional leaders to love and protect our people.

“Whoever sees anyone in the community behaving strangely must alert the police immediately.”

He described the late Makukhwe as a peace-loving person who was dedicated to his family, work and his community.

Police spokesperson, Lt Col Malesela Ledwaba said the police have opened an inquest docket.
