Kwena’s been feeding the community for over 20 years

Businesswomen Kwena says she that this business has taught her a lot of patience and to always remain humble.

MOKOPANE – Kwena Legodi is a well-known face in Ext 71, where she lives and works as a businesswoman selling items including amagwinya at the taxi rank.

For as long as many can remember, she has been selling from her maroon one-roomed shack.

From as early as 2000, when RDP houses were being built, Legodi and her mother were selling food to construction workers.

“I started selling when I was 21, and I am now 44 years old. I think this business made me who I am today, because every day I am here, I know I’ll get to feed my family.”

Due to the location of the taxi rank, the area where Legodi is selling from is considered an excellent location for doing business.

“I get to see everyone who boards a taxi and sells them my baked goodies when they travel to work, school, or the city.”

For more than 20 years now she has been getting up early to sell breakfast to local taxi drivers, commuters and anyone who has developed a taste for her delicious homemade offerings.

” I am here from 05:00 in the morning and at around 10:00 I leave to go and sell snacks at the primary school gate.”

One of the drivers who is a regular customer, said because of their usual fast pace, they don’t have time to think about breakfast in the mornings, “we rather they rely on Kwena’s breakfast menu”.

“Just the simple vetkoeks, viennas, scones that come with tea and coffee in the morning and baked fish as a midday snack, is what we like to eat.”

Today she is not only a proud business licence holder, but also a proud home owner, Legodi told BONUS.

“I have loyal customers who have become like family. This business has taught me a lot of patience and to always remain humble.”
