Township beauty queens vie for Miss Seshego title

After weeks of preparations and what the founder, Dikeledi Monyebodi called a beautiful emotional rollercoaster, Moyahabo Machaka (teen) and Koena Matlou (adult) were crowned queens of the township.

POLOKWANE – The aim was to inspire confidence and create a world class stage of pageantry for the youth of Limpopo, when the latest edition of the Miss Seshego competition was recently held.

Seven teenagers and five adults competed in categories for the Miss Seshego and Miss Seshego Teen title at the Ngoako Ramahlodi hall on the evening of April 1.

After weeks of preparations and what the founder, Dikeledi Monyebodi called a beautiful emotional rollercoaster, Moyahabo Machaka (teen) and Koena Matlou (adult) were crowned queens of the township.

“I am 15 years old and every teenage girl like me should feel beautiful and smart. They should believe in themselves and aim for dreams that are even beyond the stars. That is the reason why I once again took up this challenge. I started while in Gr 5 at Graceland Combined School, to use the platform to raise awareness. I will continue to do so in my next quest of joining Miss Limpopo and beyond,” says Machaka.

Lehlogonolo Kganyago, Moyahabo Machaka and Lethabo Sithole are the 2023 Miss Seshego Teen top 3 contestants.

Matlou said after a few technical glitches during the presentation, she had little hope of winning the title.

“The microphone switched off while I was answering questions. I genuinely thought that this threw me right down to the bottom of the standings, and I had no hope of actually winning. I was overwhelmed, especially having done this for the first time.”

The well supported social cause is a registered non-profit organisation which has been running annually for the past 10 years.

It doubles as a platform for businesses by promoting their brands and creating awareness.

“It gives young designers and local musicians the opportunity to also showcase their products at the show. Hard work pays off, and ultimately, all roads lead to the Miss South Africa pageant,” the founder, Monyebodi said.
