Endometriosis warrior, Dimakatso, educates others

Dimakatso Nonyana is on a journey to educate and spread awareness about endometriosis through social media, school tours and her own annual endometriosis awareness colour run.

POLOKWANE – After 15 years of struggling with severe pain, Dimakatso Nonyana (28) from Seshego was eventually diagnosed with endometriosis. This, however, did not stop her from tackling head-on the trials and tribulations of life, and the disease.

Nonyana went on a journey to educate and spread awareness about endometriosis daily through social media, school tours and her own annual endometriosis awareness colour run.

“I realised that people don’t know much about endometriosis, and I started to share my knowledge on my social media and later started doing school tours to teach the learners about it,” she said.

Some symptoms of endometriosis include:

· Severe menstrual cramps.

· Unusual or heavy bleeding during periods.

· Blood in your stool or urine.

· Diarrhea or constipation.

· Painful intercourse.

· Trouble getting pregnant.

· Fatigue that won’t go away.

· Back pain during period.

Asked about some of the challenges she encounters, Nonyana said that it is not easy to live with endometriosis as she sometimes struggles to get out of bed, or to stand up by herself.

Although she faces challenges, she continues to live her life to the fullest, following her participation in the recent Nestle’s Bar-One campaign, which was held to identify people in the community who do extraordinary things.

Nonyana is also a proud businesswoman.

Her passion for business was drawn from her love of fragrances, which she later used to start her own business, called Katso Fragrance.
