Limpopo police on the hunt for ‘highly dangerous’ escapees

Three prisoners were being transported from Groblersdal to the Witbank Prison when they escaped near the Moutse Mall.

LIMPOPO – The circumstances surrounding the escape of three inmates during transportation on Wednesday (January 25) is being investigated by Limpopo police.

Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said three dangerous inmates escaped while being transported from Groblersdal to the Witbank Prison.

“The three awaiting trial prisoners, Michael Masimula, Mahlatse Matebane and Lovemore Moshui aged between 20 and 40-years-old, appeared in the Groblersdal Magistrates Court on Tuesday (January 24) and were being transported to prison together with three other prisoners when they escaped near the Moutse Mall in the Dennilton policing area,” his statement read.

The escapees appeared on charges of murder, rape, armed robbery, cash-in-transit heists and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

“The circumstances surrounding their escape are still being investigated. The suspects are considered dangerous and people are cautioned not to approach them but to call the police instead. A case of escaping from lawful custody has been opened.
