Gymnast Angel says talent in rural areas should be explored

Gymnast Angel Mulaudzi wants to see young people get involved in something positive that will contribute to their well-being.

LIMPOPO – Wavhudi Gymnastics Club in Thohoyandou held their club championships on December 3 at the Thulamela Municipal Hall.

Gymnasts between the ages of six and 14 years participated.

The club was formed by a gymnast, Angel Mulaudzi, who is a second-year B.Sc sports science student at the University of Venda.

In August, she participated in the provincial competition held in Thabazimbi and returned with a silver medal.

Growing up in rural Maila in Vhembe, she knows how scarce sporting resources can be.

She trained gymnasts for a long time and now aspires to continue this practice to help other promising gymnasts reach their dreams and produce world champions from the Vhembe area.

“There is so much talent in the rural villages waiting to be explored. We must nurture it or it will be lost forever,” she said.

“At the moment I train children and youths. Seeing the children full of joy is the pride and pleasure that keeps me doing.” She was introduced to gymnastics more than two decades ago and has never looked back.

“Gymnastics taught me a lot about discipline and rising up after failing. This is a very disciplined sport. When you fall you have no choice but to get up.”

She opted to approach the Thulamela Municipality to pursue her dream of opening a centre where children and youths can become gymnasts.

Mulaudzi added that she also wanted to see young people get involved in in something positive that will contribute to their well-being.

She invites boys and girls who are interested in gymnastic to join the club.

“We plan to make this a sport big and we want everyone to participate.”

She also invited business people to support her club with sponsorships.
