The suspect was tracked down by the community, assaulted and is fighting for his life in hospital.

LIMPOPO – A 28-year-old man from Mudimeli was stabbed to death at a tavern on December 3, while the suspect fights for his life in hospital after he was assaulted by community members.

The deceased was identified as Ananias Ramafhi.

Provincial police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed the incident and said an argument that ensued between Ramafhi and the suspect turned physical.

Ramafhi was stabbed in the chest and under his left arm, and died on the scene.

The next morning, members of the community apparently went in search of the suspect where they assaulted him.

Saved by police interference, the man was taken to hospital where he is kept under police guard.

Cases of murder and assault are being investigated.

Mojapelo condemned the mob justice incident and reiterated that disrespect for the law cannot be condoned.

He urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands but to instead report all suspected criminal activities to the police.

“Those who are still perpetrating these types of acts will be dealt with harshly and without compromise,” he said.

Ramafi’s older brother, Brian said the family is still trying to come to terms with the senseless murder. He was buried at Mudimeli on December 10.
