Sixth suspect for Collins Chabane mayor’s murder in court today

The 31-year-old man was tracked down in October but has since been hospitalised after he was injured during a shootout with the police.

LIMPOPO – The investigation team assigned to the murder of the previous Collins Chabane Municipality mayor, Moses Maluleka, successfully linked a sixth suspect to the case.

Maluleka was shot dead at his house in Saselamani on July 21 during an attack in which his teenage son was injured.

The sixth suspect, a 31-year-old man, was pursued by the police since Maluleka’s murder and tracked town in Thohoyandou on October 30.

During the encounter the man allegedly opened fire on the police officials, who returned fire, and caused him to be hospitalised after he was shot and injured.

“The man faces charges for a series of other serious crimes, including the murder of a legal aid lawyer in Thohoyandou and business robberies committed in the Vhembe District,” Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed in a statement.

He is expected to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court today (December 13) along with the other five suspects who intend to apply for bail.
