Leeto La Polokwane to replace paper tickets with ABT system

The ABT-compliant fare collection system can be used on all public transportation systems across the country that are also ABT compliant.

POLOKWANE – The paper tickets that are currently used to pay for trips on the city’s rapid public transport system, Leeto La Polokwane, will soon be phased out to make way for a new Account-Based Ticketing (ABT) compliant with an automated fare collection system (AFC), which is currently being tested for operational performance.

In a media release, the municipality explains that the ABT-compliant fare collection system can be used on all public transportation systems across the country that are also ABT compliant.

“Considering the imminent implementation of the AFC system, the municipality has decided not to obtain additional paper tickets, as these will be replaced by Leeto La Polokwane Travel Cards in the near future,” the statement reads.

According to the municipality, LLP has seen a high demand for R10 paper tickets for single trips on the Seshego/Madiba Park routes and it is anticipated that the tickets will soon be sold out.

In the meantime, customers can purchase either the return trip or multi-journey tickets for the Seshego/Madiba Park routes.

“Passengers should also be aware that all paper tickets purchased from 15 November 2022, must bear an expiry date stamp. Tickets purchased without a stamp from this date should be reported to the municipality’s e-mail address, leetolapolokwane@polokwane or control centre number on 015 023 0055. Passengers are encouraged to use the same contact information to report any other Leeto La Polokwane-related fraud or corruption,” the municipality advised.
