Limpopo Public Works MEC unharmed in R529 collision

The vehicle the MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure travelled in was forced off the road but no injuries were reported.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure have confirmed a collision on the R529 road between Lebowakgomo and Jane Furse involving the MEC, Nkakareng Rakgoale.

Public Works spokesperson Witness Tiva said the collision happened on Thursday (December 1) and that there were no injuries sustained.

Tiva explained that the MEC and her protectors were driving from a government event when an oncoming truck veered into their lane and collided with the MEC’s vehicle in the rear.

“The vehicle was forced off the road but the MEC, her team and the truck driver were unharmed,” a statement read.

He told the Polokwane Review-Observer that the truck driver cited alleged brake failure as the reason for his vehicle veering off the road and that he had lost control.

Tiva added that those involved were taken to the hospital for observation as a precautionary measure.
