Cops to probe suspicious package found at local school

The Department of Education informed police of the suspicious package after personnel found it under a prefab classroom.

POLOKWANE – The provincial police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba has confirmed that a package of an unknown substance found on the premises of Capricorn High School was handed over to them on Monday (November 28).

Ledwaba told the Polokwane Review-Observer that no arrests have been made as yet as investigations are underway to determine what type of powder the substance is and that drugs are not ruled out.

“The teachers and security officers are cooperating with the police to get to the bottom of this without speculation,” he said.

The spokesperson for the Department of Education, Mike Maringa said they were the ones to inform the police after personnel found the package under a prefab classroom.

“The police had sniffer dogs inspect the package in an effort to determine if it was drugs or not, however, they did not detect anything,” Maringa told the Review-Observer.

Maringa said police will take the package for laboratory tests in order to confirm what the substance is.
