Thohoyandou family in mourning after relative stabs man

The suspect arrested for the murder of Lufuno Mudzugu accused several taverngoers of stealing his wallet before Mudzugu was stabbed.

LIMPOPO – THE Mudzugu family is in deep mourning following the death of Lufuno Mudzugu (40) who was stabbed at a shebeen on October 29.

The deceased’s elder sister Doreen Mudzugu said she is still trying to come to terms with the event.

“Lufuno was not a fighter. We are worried because the suspect was out on parole after serving time for murder and attempted murder. Now he killed our beloved family member,” said Doreen.

According to her the suspect and the deceased are related.

The suspect, Vhutshilo Aka Muvenda Mudau appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on November 1 on a charge of murder and his case was postponed to today (November 9) for formal bail application.

Acting Vhembe police spokesperson Sgt Vuledzani Dathi said police are investigating a case of murder after a man was stabbed to death at Muledane Vhatukanani.

Dathi said preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased and the suspect reside in the same village and were at a local shebeen when the suspect accused taverngoers of stealing his wallet.

“The man then stabbed Lufuno in the back and in the chest. The suspect fled the scene but was later arrested.”

Lufuno was buried at the Muledane village cemetery over the weekend.
