Over 2 000 arrests in latest limpopo police operation

POLOKWANE – Over 2 153 suspects between the ages of 19 and 61 were arrested for numerous offences during a recent operation by various police units within the Limpopo police force.

The operations were conducted from October 31 to November 7 which saw the suspects arrested for murder, attempted murder, rape, dealing in drugs, unlawful possession of firearms and the Contravention of the Immigration Act.

Among those arrested was a 42-year-old foreign national who was nabbed in the Polokwane policing area for dealing in drugs.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said crystal meth and other drugs with an estimated street value of R2 000 was confiscated during his arrest.

Meanwhile, three suspects between the ages of 26 and 37 were arrested for business burglary and possession of suspected stolen properties in Bloodriver outside Seshego.

Mojapelo said the suspects were positively linked with a burglary committed at a school in the Matlala policing area and the stolen items, including groceries was confiscated.

A 22-year-old suspect was also arrested in possession of illicit cigarettes in the Groblersdal CBD and 12 cartons worth R1 300 was confiscated.

“Firearms, drugs, and other items recovered during the operations include 14 firearms, 1 769 counterfeit cigarettes, a large quantity of alcohol, 25 dangerous weapons, 73 knives, 10 stolen/ robbed vehicles and various drugs in the form of dagga, nyaope and crystal meth,” he said.

In addition, 2 158 road traffic fines were issued and 72 shebeens closed.

“Some of the suspects by have started appearing before various Magistrate’s Courts across the province and operations are ongoing in all the districts of the province,” he said.
