POLOKWANE – Residents around the Oost and Grobler Street intersection could be hit by intermittent water shortages due to a damaged underground pipe.

Water in the area has been switched off to allow the contractor hired by the municipality, Networth Group, to dig and repair the pipe.

Earlier this morning, a truck unknowingly drove over the sinkhole and got stuck.

It has since been removed and towed.

Selala told the Polokwane Review-Observer that the pipeline was damaged by fibre installers and that the pipe supplies water directly from the Krugersburg reservoir.

“It won’t affect too many areas, just those around Webster and Oost Streets. It will take six hours to repair,” he said.
