The Baobab Classic rules the course

The annual golf tournament once again received a lot of attention from players, sponsors and supporters at the Polokwane Golf Club.

POLOKWANE – If there is one tournament golfers look forward to every year, it is without a doubt the Baobab Classic, hosted by the Polokwane Golf Club.

As in the past, the tournament took place over three days, on October 20-22.

Each day is played in a different format.

Players from across the country take part in the fun-filled event with big prizes up for grabs.

Sun, wind and rain could not stop the players from getting out their clubs to meet on the tee boxes.

Club captain, Wynand Pretorius and Butch Martens are the Captain’s Knockout winners for 2022.

This is a club competition where the players challenge each other.

“Polokwane is a friendly and welcoming city, and we enjoyed the Baobab Classic tremendously,” one player remarked.

A total of 124 players took part in the four-ball alliance format on Thursday.

The sponsor was RE/MAX Northland Realty.

Winners:

1. James Faurie, Gerhard Saaiman, JJ Fourie and Anton van Dyk with 117 points.

2. Pieter Strydom, Jacques du Toit, Trevor Thomas en Quintin Prinsloo with 115 points.

3. Edwin Mackays, Francois Hartlief, Pat Molepo and Joas Legodi with 112 points.

Friday saw 128 players participate in a betterball format, sponsored by PanSolutions.

Winners:

1. Hein Viljoen and Deon Mostert with 46 points.

2. Sizwe Mbili and Lukhanyiso Papu with 46 points (count-in).

3 Thys de Kock and Barend Jacobsz with 46 points (count-in).

Saturday started out hot and sunny, but rain and wind interrupted play and made conditions difficult.

The format was individual stableford with 130 players.

Play was then interrupted by the sound of the siren, which meant players had to leave the course.

Play resumed somewhat later and teams had the opportunity to complete the rounds.

The sponsor for the last day was BB Ford Polokwane.

Winners:

1. Kobus Geeringh with 44 points.

2. Thys de Kock with 42 points.

3. Henri van Zyl Smit with 42 points.

Since it is a three-day challenge, the overall winners were:

1. Malabane Pataki, Henri van Zyl Smit, Jurie Anker and Stefan Meyer with 128.7.

2. Thys de Kock, Barend Jacobsz, Keith Hoare and Jacques Pretorius with 122.4.

3. Edwin Mackays, Francois Hartlief, Pat Molepo and Joas Legodi with 121.3.
