Muni to prioritise clearing dumping site in Seshego Zone 7

An illegal dumping site in Seshego Zone 7 has affected business in the area and residents say the stench is unbearable.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality this week provided feedback on an earlier story relating to an illegal dumping site in Seshego Zone 7, following complaints of a stench in the area.

The businesses based on this hub near the junk pile said it affected their customers, especially those who have rented flats.

The dumping site is situated behind rented houses in Zone 7, Sesehgo.

“Tenants have threatened to leave if this mess is not dealt with,” said Takalo Matsimela, a worker in the area.

Matsimela told BONUS that he had visited the municipality on October 13, and was told that the Polokwane Waste Management would attend to the matter the next Friday, however, it still has not happened.

“I used the phone at the security to talk to Jabu Shongwe who said he was from Polokwane Waste Management. He said to me over the phone that he will, send his people to move the rubbish and then set up a meeting with those affected.”

Apart from losing business, employers also fear for their workers’ health.

They have urged the municipality to put up a fine sign on the site, prohibiting anyone from dumping.

Polokwane Municipality spokesperson, Thipa Sealala said the outcry was noted and their Waste Management Department would prioritise the matter.
