Man arrested in Greenside for kidnap and murder of woman

The man was found in possession of a cellphone that was used to demand a R5 000 ransom for Nkhangweleni Mavis Musesi's release before her murder.

POLOKWANE – A 29-year-old man will appear before the Tshitale Magistrate’s Court today on charges of kidnapping and murder following his arrest in Greenside outside Polokwane on Saturday (October 22).

The man was arrested following the kidnapping and murder of Nkhangweleni Mavis Musesi (47), whose body was discovered on October 9 in a state of decomposition.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said Musesi’s brother received a phonecall from her cellphone on September 15 from a male who informed him that he had kidnapped her and demanded a ransom of R5000 for her release.

“The Provincial Organised Crime Unit took over the case after it was reported and began tracking down the suspect(s),” he said.

Mojapelo added that the suspect was found in posession of the cellphone that was used to demand the ransom.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has appealed to the community to assist with information about the remaining suspects and hailed the investigating team for working around the clock to ensure the suspects are arrested.
