Lindie Oberholzer murder accused to represent himself in court

Fortune Mahlatse Sebone (19) stands accused of murdering Lindie Oberholzer in August and was arrested after a house robbery in Welgelegen a few days after her murder.

POLOKWANE – Murder accused Fortune Mahlatse Sebone (19) today opted to no longer make use of Legal Aid services, telling the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court that he will represent himself instead in his upcoming trial.

Sebone, who stands accused of murdering Lindie Oberholzer, appeared before Magistrate Janine Ungerer earlier today where he was denied bail.

He faces a charge of murder and housebreaking.

During proceedings, Ungerer asked if Sebone had been informed of the advantages and disadvantages of the decision to represent himself, which he affirmed.

According to Section 60 of The Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977, the evidence given by Sebone in his bail application is admissible during his trial.

Sebone was arrested in August following a robbery in Welgelegen just few days after Oberholzer was murdered in her home in Bendor.

Her body was found by her husband, Obie and son, Armand after they returned from a hunting trip.

Sebone’s next court appearance will be on October 24 when his bail application will continue.
