Limpopo NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said Pretorius was convicted after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on a 16-year-old boy.

Malabi-Dzhangi said the complainant and his cousin were at a fast food outlet on June 15 when the victim asked to use the same seasoning as Pretorius.

“The accused allegedly became furious and started assaulting the boy by pushing him out of the store. He continued assaulting the boy while pointing him with a firearm and left the complainant lying on the ground,” she said.

Malabi-Dzhangi said the complainant was later taken to the Groblersdal Hospital where he received medical attention and was later discharged.

The video caused public outcry over Pretorius’ use of violence towards the minor.

She said the state withdrew the charge of pointing of a firearm due to insufficient evidence.

“Pretorius will next appear on December 2 for pre-sentencing reports,” she said.
