POLOKWANE – Three people were killed and eight injured in a head-on collision on the N1S bypass in Polokwane this afternoon.

Transport and Community Safety spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene said the collision took place near the N1-Dorp Street off-ramp at around 12:24.

“The officer on the scene suspects the collision may have been caused by an unsafe u-turn by a sedan who then collided head-on with an oncoming taxi,” she said.

Chuene said the injured people were transported to nearby health facilities for treatment.

“Reckless driving has been cited as the possible cause,” she said.

This brings the total number of fatalities on Polokwane’s roads to four.

POLOWKANE – The right hand lane of the N1 Bypass travelling south is closed as law enforcement officials clear the scene of a fatal collision.

A source told the Polokwane Observer that four people were declared dead on the scene near the Dorp Street intersection this afternoon (October 14).

Unconfirmed reports suggest the driver of a sedan changed lanes unsafely and collided with an oncoming taxi.

The incident is the second fatal collision to happen in Polokwane today (October 14) following the death of a 12-year-old boy this morning.
