Polokwane resident tied to the theft of food parcels found dead

The Polokwane SAPS are investigating an inquest case related to the theft of stock from a feeding scheme meant to support learners around Mankweng.

POLOKWANE – A manhunt was launched in search of a foreign national residing in Mokopane, who allegedly bought food parcels intended to be used in a feeding scheme to support local learners from a Polokwane resident.

The resident who sold the stock worked at the warehouse where Klein-Tech Feeding Scheme Company, which supplies food to the schools in the Mankweng area, store their parcels.

The owner of the feeding scheme company noticed that some of the food parcels they collected were missing and opened a case with the police.

“Upon initial investigation, the man admitted to have illegally sold two month’s stock worth thousands of rands to an unknown foreign national in Mokopane,” Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi confirmed.

The man was supposed to take the police to the spot where he sold the food parcels, in the hope to recover the stock.

This, however, could not realise as he was found dead at his place of residence in Hans van Rensburg Street on Wednesday (October 12) morning.

According to reports, the police received a complaint at about 07:45, and upon investigation found the man who was positively linked to the theft of food parcels, where he hanged from the roof in the bathroom.

“The police immediately called the local criminal record centre, as well as the emergency medical services, who certified him dead on the scene,” Seabi said in a statement.

The deceased was positively identified by a relative at the scene as Ayanda Makgati Mphakane aged 34 from Ga-Mphahlele, Rapotela village.

The incident is being investigated while the search for the alleged buyer(s) of food parcels is still underway.

Anyone with information who can assist with the investigations should contact the investigating officer Warrant Officer Ringane on 072 170 6535 or the crime stop number 08600 10111.
