Duo accused of Thohoyandou attorney’s murder back in court

Mmbambadzeni James Manwadu (46) was shot and killed outside his house near Thavhani Mall on January 16.

LIMPOPO – Two accused, Tshianeo Munyai (30) and Ndalamo Nemakhavhani (22) appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court in connection with the murder of Mmbambadzeni James Manwadu (46), an attorney attached to Legal Aid South Africa in Thohoyandou.

It is alleged that on January 16, Manwadu arrived at his home in Maniini village near Thavhani Mall and while getting out of his car to open the gate, he was approached by armed suspects who gunned him down.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said Munyai is also linked to several cases from 2020 to 2022, including the murder case of Collins Chabane Mayor Moses Maluleke (56) in July. They were allegedly involved in a house robbery in Tswinga village where a woman was hijacked, kidnapped, robbed of her laptop, cellphones and forced to withdraw R10 000 from her bank account.

“The second accused, Nemakhavhani is also linked to several cases in Thohoyandou of housebreaking, robbery with aggravating circumstances and murder. He further has a case against him in Vuwani where he robbed stokvel money amounting to R30 000 and a case in Waterval of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft,” said Malabi-Dzhangi.

She said the matter was postponed to October 24 for the accused (Nemakhavhani) to secure a legal representative and they will remain in custody.
