Suspects with stolen vehicle arrested on plot outside Polokwane

The suspects were linked to the murder of the owner of the vehicle that happened in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga on October 8.

POLOKWANE – Four men between the age of 22 and 33 were arrested on a plot in Tweefontein outside Polokwane when they were found in possession of a stolen motor vehicle used in a crime committed in Lydenburg on October 8.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi said the men were arrested during ongoing operations by Limpopo police which saw over 1 000 suspects nabbed.

Seabi said a white sedan was found being stripped by the suspects on the plot as they were trying to remove a tracking device.

“During the arrest, police confiscated knives suspected to be those used during the killing of the owner of the vehicle as there were blood stains on the driver’s seat which the suspects attempted to wash in order to destroy evidence,” a statement read.

Seabi said the four suspects were also arrested for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, Contravention of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002 and murder.

Meanwhile, three suspects known for multiple robberies in Polokwane, Botlokwa, Louis Trichardt and Tzaneen were arrested after a robbery in the Botlokwa policing precinct.

Seabi said the suspects exchanged fire with traffic officials along the Eisleben gravel road when they managed to flee the scene.

“One suspect was arrested by MTRS Security, Jason SPS Security and Botlokwa Traffic Police but his two accomplices were seen hiking a Haval motor vehicle at a filling station along the N1,” he said.

The Polokwane Airwing Unit were called to assist and the vehicle was intercepted when approaching an inn outside Polokwane resulting in the apprehension of the two suspects.

Seabi said the arrested suspects have started to appear before local magistrate’s courts.
