Arrests in Bendor: Surge in drug dealers in Polokwane

Two men were recently arrested at Cycad Centre and in Bendor during ongoing police operations that aim to quell the surge of drug dealers in the city.

POLOKWANE – Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi said the police are not neccessarily saying Bendor has become a hotspot for drugs, but did note a surge in drug dealers in the city of Polokwane.

Seabi responded to a media query by the Polokwane Observer following the seperate arrests of two men in the area during ongoing weekly operations by Limpopo police.

A man was arrested at Cycad Centre recently in posession of rock and crystal meth.

Seabi said members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team were conducting patrol duties when they spotted a suspicious vehicle at the centre.

“Police requested permission to search the vehicle and during the search, drugs with an estimated street value of R10 000 was discovered. The suspect was immediately arrested for being in possession and dealing drugs,” he said.

Meanwhile, patrols in the Bendor area led to the arrest of another man for being in possession of drugs.

Seabi said police found the vehicle loaded with cat and crystal meth valued at R9 000 and the suspect was arrested.

The suspects were two of 1 559 suspects arrested for various offences in the province.

“We have definitely seen a surge in drug dealers in the city and we have increased our visibility which has resulted in many arrests. This is also based on information received by the community,” he told the Observer.

Seabi said the police work hand-in-hand with the community and arrests like these would not occur without tip-off’s from residents.
