Popular Limpopo comedian sentenced to 10 years in prison

The Sibasa Regional Court heard that popular comedian Bundu assaulted his girlfriend with a wooden stick and electric cable, and dripped burning plastic all over her body before locking her up inside his house for two weeks.

LIMPOPO – Comedian Ntambudzeni Rasendedza (40) better known as ‘Bundu’ of Lwamondo village just outside Thohoyandou was sentenced to 10 years in prison the Sibasa Regional Court on September 28.

The well-known comedian of Tshovhilingana soapie was convicted on a count of attempted murder, kidnapping and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The court heard that the first incident happened in August 2019, when Rasendedza assaulted his girlfriend with a wooden stick and electric cable, and dripped burning plastic all over her body before locking her up inside his house for two weeks.

The second incident happened when the two attended a party and he assaulted her with a rock, breaking her leg.

Bundu pleaded not guilty and said the victim had burned herself and broke her leg after she fell.

In aggravation of sentence, regional prosecutor Fhulufhelo Mulangaphuma argued that the accused should be sentenced to jail to send a message to would-be offenders.

Limpopo spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi remains steadfast in vigorously prosecuting gender-based violence cases.

He was denied bail since March 13, 2020 when his case was transferred to the Sibasa Regional Court.
